The Economic Committee of the Arab Iron and Steel Union held its eleventh meeting on 8–9 September 2025 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Cairo, with the participation of representatives from a number of member companies. Mr. George Matta, Head of the Marketing Sector at Ezz Steel, was elected Chairman of the Economic Committee for the 2025–2029 term. The sessions continued with discussions on global economic changes and their direct impacts on the steel industry in Arab countries. The meeting reviewed developments in global markets and their repercussions on the iron and steel sector, in light of current challenges, as well as major economic transformations in the Arab region amid geopolitical fluctuations and volatility in energy and raw material prices. The Gulf countries and North Africa continue to play a pivotal role in production and demand, driven by infrastructure projects, while the Eastern Mediterranean countries represent a promising market in the medium term. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was decided to hold the twelfth meeting in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, in April 2026, at the invitation of Hadeed.
